Media technology, especially in the home entertainment segment, has grown by leaps and bounds, from vinyl records, video and audio cassettes, CDs and DVDs and now the latest entrant is Blu-ray media. Blu-ray is the new generation disk technology and it outstrips the old DVDs by leaps and bounds in terms of memory capacity, video quality and speed. Blu-ray media technology entered the markets a few years back and immediately grabbed everybody’s attention because of its ability to store videos in HD format and large memory capacity. It makes viewing movies at home an altogether new experience with superb video quality and sound. The market has exploded with Blu-ray and it is entering almost all aspects of the market. Computers and laptops are come preloaded with Blu-ray disc readers and writers, Blu-ray disc players and home theatre systems, gaming consoles that use Blu-ray discs, blank Blu-ray discs for storage and other purposes; in short Blu-ray is all set to become the next big thing in media technology.
The Exact Science of Blu-ray
Ever since the development of HD media, there had been no disc technology like the CD or DVD that could contain the vast sizes and codecs of High Definition videos. Shuji Nakamura, the inventor of Blu-ray, discovered that by using a laser of shorter wavelength to burn in the storage into the disc one could create higher capacity in the disc. So instead of using the red laser used by DVDs, they used blue laser on a disk, hence the name Blu-ray.
The storage capacity of a Blu-ray disk is its strongest plus point. A normal DVD has a storage capacity of 4.5 GB and a dual layer DVD has 9 GB of storage. The HD-DVD, the erstwhile rival to the Blu-ray disk, had a capacity of 15GB and the dual layer HD-DVD had a capacity of 30GB. The Blu-ray disk trumps all these capacities as one normal Blu-ray disk has 25 GB of capacity and a dual layer Blu-ray disk has 50GB of capacity. This means that a Blu-ray disk can capture a full HD 1080p resolution image so it can play full HD videos. Its resolution of 1920 X 1080 is also greater than the 768 X 480 resolution of a standard DVD.
The other plus point of the Blu-ray is its signal speed or bandwidth. The Blu-ray disk can produce signals of up to 36Mbps compared to 1.32Mbps for a normal DVD.
Another great feature ingrained in the Blu-ray media players ensures that your old DVDs do not become redundant. These players upscale the video quality of the DVD when they play them by converting a DVD’s resolution to a higher level required for HDTV. This does not change the resolution but improves the picture quality.
The positives of Blu-ray technology show us that it is a clear winner and will change home entertainment for the better. Blu-ray is the next best thing and is the technology for the next generation. It is only a matter of time before it penetrates the market and then before you know it, it will be in everybody’s household.

What’s Is New In Home Movie Technology
By Ann Christopher A
There have been a couple of choices when it comes to watching movies at home over the past few years. After VHS and cable, you had a breakthrough in technology with the DVD and now blu-ray. You have also had things like pay per view for a while and even the on demand stuff is cool, but can get expensive. Many younger people and even people of the VHS generation are really into downloading and digital forms of media.
In the past, it took so long to download and was too technical for most people, but it has gotten so much easier with video streaming that most people can take advantage of its benefits. One of the most popular and most well known streaming companies is Netflix. They offer DVD’s and Blu-rays sent right to your house, but the streaming is a great option for most people.
Most people don’t have the technical know-how or desire to hook all their devices together. You can hook your computer up to your television and stream form a desk top or lap top, but it seems difficult to most people. And when people think about downloading and streaming, they think about doing it from their computers. But now, you have a choice. All three major home video consoles allow streaming from their consoles and sites. All you need is a special disc, like a DVD that they will send you for free. Then all you have to do is hook up to the internet and start downloading your favorite movies and television shows. It really is that easy and everybody can do it without having to get too technical and computer heavy.
Being able to turn on your Wii or PS3 and put in a DVD and connect directly to a movie database is much easier for most people to handle. People don’t want things to seem more complicated that it is worthwhile to do. Learning a new way to do things can be overwhelming or overly complicated for many people.
I don’t like changing and when I get used to something, it takes a lot for me to change the way I am doing it to make it worth it. Most people are used to going to the video store to rent a movie. Browsing online, and instantly watching it is way more convenient, but it seems like a big change to get ready for.

The medieval time period occurred during the fifth to fifteenth centuries. It was also the time frame between ancient and modern times. Medieval people survived by hunting and crude farming. Laws were based on tribal customs and superstitions rather than a strong legal system. They fought with clubs, shields and spears and wore suits of armor. Castles were built to protect the inhabitants in the event of a siege or what we would call today, a hostile takeover. A great deal of food was stored in the castles in the event of a siege. Castles were usually surrounded by moats and iron gates.
If you want to give your home, or manor, that medieval look, there are a number of ways that can be achieved. There are medieval decor interior decorators that will be more than happy to help you decorate your home, or you can take a flyer at it yourself. You may want to begin with just one room to be sure you like the look.
The look of medieval decor is dark and menacing. It does not inspire thoughts of happiness and sunny days. Walls are typically dark. Dark, wood paneling with wood battens will give your room a strong, warrior look. If you prefer paint pick a dark, rich color such as dark red or green. If you paint the woodwork, molding and/or detail gold, you will have the perfect medieval look. If you want to go the wallpaper route choose wallpaper that includes dark colors such as brown, green and red but include some highlights in lighter colors such as cream, dusty pinks, blues, greens and rusts. If you choose wallpaper with a pattern, stick with a tapestry or heraldic design. A nice floral or foliage pattern will work well.
Dark, oak, wood ceiling beams will bring out the rich medieval decor style of your room. You might find the real deal genuine oak beams. If not, there are authentic looking beams on the market that will do just nicely. A reasonable facsimile beam will be lighter in weight than a real oak beam and easier to install.
The focal point of a medieval room is a fireplace. They are floor to ceiling and massive. They were made of brick, stone or huge timbers. You might want to opt for a brick or stone fireplace with a stone hearth and mantle. Back in the castle days, fireplaces were used for heating as well as cooking. Do not forget the log box, wrought iron fire grates and tong and poker set to complete your medieval decor.
Medieval decor included floors of hard wood, stone or concrete. They were cold in the winter and cool in the summer. Do not hesitate to add throw or scatter rugs around the floor for warmth. Be sure to pick rugs in traditional medieval colors.
When thinking about medieval decor, dainty is not the operative word when it comes to furniture. Look for solidly built, substantial furniture made from dark wood, preferably oak. If you are decorating a bedroom, a 4 poster bed will fit in just fine along with a bench and chest of draws. The length of window curtains should be from the top of the window to the floor and do not forget to choose traditional medieval colors.
